Yesterday Thursday October 31, 2024, we took part in an event where the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) and Strathmore Business School (SBS) hosted a meeting in Nyeri titled “Advancing Gender Equity in Leadership: Dissemination of Research Findings and Recommendations.” The forum focused on discussing human resource challenges in the health sector, specifically addressing gender equity in leadership. The meeting aimed to raise awareness and build support for advancing women’s leadership in healthcare, with a particular focus on overcoming barriers and leveraging facilitators for mid- to senior-level positions in Kenya’s health sector.

The objectives of the meeting were:

  1. To present detailed research findings on women in health leadership in Kenya.
  2. To engage in breakout sessions to develop actionable strategies among professional associations and stakeholders to promote gender equity in health leadership.
  3. To examine the role of capacity building and the need for tailored leadership development programs for aspiring leaders in the health sector.
  4. To define concrete steps for implementing the report’s recommendations and secure a collective commitment to advance gender equity.
